Mid Season Repairs & Adventures
In late July Bruce & June Clark were sitting aboard their Bristol 45.5 anchored when a slightyly out of control catboard broadsided them causing a fair amount of fiberglass damage. After insurance issues were resolved our crew went to work. Since the Clark's are liveaboards fast turn around with a minimum of mess was very important. headed up by Curt Heath our crew hauled, de-rigged and moved the boat into the shop. In a little more than two weeks the fiberglass damage was repaired and the entire hull received a fresh coat of Pearl Gray Awlgrip.

The Bristol 41 ' Qwest" was in for a new Westerbeke Diesel and some other systems upgrades. Tim & the owner sailed the boat back to Plymouth after a tow through the canal. Jon Moreno handled the engine installation.

Also in is the Sky 51 "Skye" She is getting a new 85 hp Perkins. her owner is doing a good portion of the work with help from Colin & Jon.
In early August we received a radio call from a 68' aluminum ketch. The owner indicated the transmission had gone clunk and stopped. With the use of System Marine's tow boat Colin and Tim located the boat a few miles east of Gurnet Point. After an uneventful tow back to the dock Colin disassembled the aft shower to access the transmission. Examination revealed that a failed gear oil cooler had filled the gear box with seawater. A rebuilt gear box was located and Colin had them on there way in pretty short order.

Interesting Visiting Vessels
In mid August the motor sailor "MIT SEA AH" paid us a visit. At 155' with a 33' beam she is pretty impressive. She's powered with 2 - 3500 hp MAN diesel and has a max speed of 25 knowt. The fuel capacity is 48,500 gallons. I don't think I'd want to fill her up.

There are two interesting design features that enable her to power fast or sail. The 25 ton keel section can retract into the hull. The 156' tall carbon fiber mast has an upper section that retracts also hydraulically within itself. The spar carries 7858 square feet of sail up wind and as much as 12,500 square feet down wind. To give you an idea of the scale of this boat the sportfish boat tied forward of here is 90' overall. A pretty impressive piece of boat building and design all in all.

RACK STORAGE AND POWER WASH
BREWER PLYMOUTH MARINE replaced 130' of steel bulkhead, abutting the service dock area, and installed a concrete ramp and launch pad that allows the yard's rack storage, negative lift, fork truck to reach the low tide zone. "We also installed a 500 gallon power wash containment tank, as required by law. Though MA does not have a certified "green marina" program yet, we do have similar guidelines, put out by the State, which we follow to meet both local and federal regulations.
