| 2000 Wellcraft 33' Coastal |
| This boat had failed survey due to low compression on its compression test. The center two cylinders on both engines were low, about 20-25 psi lower than the others. This was due to some salt & rust on the exhaust valves. The water intrusion in these engines was due to the down angle on the exhaust system. The engines were currently still under manufactures warranty. The engines were removed from the vessel & the manifolds and cylinder heads were removed for inspection. Mercruiser picked up the tab to replace these parts under warranty. However, the original problem needed to be addressed. A new cooling system was added to warm water manifolds & also 3" risers with resonaters. This allowed sufficient down angle of exhaust system. The exhaust hoses were lengthened from 13" original to an 18" minimum before entering any other exhaust fitting in the system. The 90 degree fittings and T fittings were removed from the system and replaced with 45 degree fittings and Y fittings to allow a smoother flow of the exhaust system. This should avoid the water from entering the cylinders from the exhaust. See exhaust project for pictures of the new exhaust system. |
