All mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating the entrance channel to Pilots Point Marina and the Patchogue River due to ongoing Dredging Operations.
The entrance channel to Pilots Point Marina and the Patchogue River will be undergoing Dredging Operations until approximately 15 May.
Dredging operations will be performed mostly Monday through Friday.
During dredging of the West half of the channel, only the East half of the channel will be available for navigation. The initial dredging operations will be on the West half of the channel.
During dredging of the East half of the channel there will be periods when the entire channel will be closed for navigation.
There will be a series of temporary pilings set at the edges of the channel and along the center-line as shown in the chart below.
Note that buoys G "3" and N "4" shown on the chart below have been removed for dredging operations.
Two new Ranges have been installed on the marsh across from the Pilots Point Fuel Dock as private aids to navigation. The two new ranges are located to either side of the existing range and are white and orange. They indicate the west and east edges of the channel.
It is recommended that mariners use these ranges to avoid the shoals that exist just outside of the channel.
Also, it has been reported that the depth within the channel is less than reported on the chart so it is also recommended, especially at low tide, all mariners navigate accordingly.
Starting May 1st, you can contact the Pilots Point Dock Office at 860-399-7906 or call on VHF 09 to get an up to the minute report on the status of channel closings and navigation restrictions. Until then you can call 860-227-7005.
