"Where learning to sail is more fun"

Welcome to the website for the PPM Sailing School - where learning to sail is more fun!

If you’d like a brochure, please call Hilary Loftus at 860-399-7906 x126 and leave your name, address and phone number, or you can email: hloftus@byy.com.

The 2008 brochures go out mid February. Please get your registration in early to be assured a space; the 2007 program filled up very quickly with a long wait list. Hope everyone was practicing their knots and/or racing rules over the winter!

Some highlights and memories from last summer at PPM Sailing School include:

- Lots of fun times for novice through advanced recreational sailing students as they learned or perfected new sailing skills with their instructors and made new sailing friends. Lots of progress was made on the sailing skill charts. Some exciting new sailing DVD’s and rainy day activities are being added this summer, as well as new sailing games on the water.

- Fun times with old and new sailing friends and instructors on the water and by the pool. Quite a few talented “card sharks” at the pavilion and soccer or Frisbee players on the lawn while on lunch break.

-Youth sailors and families had good times together in the Colgate 26 during “family lessons” and got to show off their new skills to each other.

- Junior sailing moms enjoyed being on the water and making new sailing friends during women’s morning sailing lessons.

- PPM racing students had fun reuniting at the summer racing clinic in Essex and then going on to qualify in top standing for the ECSA Team Racing Championships. It was only our 4th season in the Team Racing League and we were up against other very established top racing teams – congratulations racers, you’ve come a long way and it will be fun to see how far you go this summer!

- PPM Racers won their share of silver in regional fleet racing and even created their very own cool racing colors (see photos).

- The Ken Legler Race Clinic was a racing student summer highlight – everyone enjoyed the Tufts University Coach’s clinic and learned a lot. The Bemis/Smythe Regatta co-hosted with Duck Island Yacht Club was another fun experience; this year B/S is incorporated into Niantic Jr. Olympics, so be sure to sign up early.

-Youth racers and friends, instructors, their friends and other PPM Sailing School alums enjoyed racing together on weeknights at Duck Island Yacht Club. Youth racers and instructors had fun helping out on Monday nights as Special Olympic coaches.

- In the adult sailing program, PPM Customers and other boat owners benefited from getting to know their boats better and learning how to more easily leave and return to their docks as well as perfecting the finer points of anchoring, sail trim and cruise preparation.
