About the Area
The history of Glen Cove, like many other settlements on the North Shore of Long Island, is closely associated with the history of its waterfront. For 250 years, Glen Cove was part of the Town of Oyster Bay. However, as the population grew to over 10,000 residents, it became evident that the existing machinery of government was no longer adequate. On June 8, 1917 the Governor signed into law a bill proclaiming Glen Cove to become its own City.
In the beginning of the 20th Century, Glen Cove began to see an influx of wealthy industrialists, bankers and business people who built lavish estates, many along the waterfront. Many of these estates are still standing and are in use today as schools, houses of worship and executive retreats.
Glen Cove and the fabled Gold Coast area was once a summer home to turn-of-the-century tycoons, such as the Vanderbilts, Phipps and Guggenheims. Many of the opulent mansions and gardens are open for visitors. Nearby are also historical museums, arboretums, two working gristmills, indoor shopping malls, and several picturesque nautical villages. The area's character dates back to President George Washington's days of travel along the shorelines' winding roads back in 1790. Today, the high speed ferry transports visitors across Long Island Sound from the Connecticut Coast to Glen Cove, while the "Thomas Jefferson," an elegant replica of the side-wheel paddle steamer, offers narrated history tours along the coast.
Whether keeping your boat at Brewer Yacht Yard at Glen Cove to be near to New York City, but in a protected, safe and tranquil harbor; or if you are visiting while cruising Long Island Sound, you can expect the same reputable Brewer quality and care.
In addition to wonderful waterfront activities, Glen Cove also boasts nature preserves, museums and wonderful restaurants. The Welwyn Nature Preserve consists of 204 beautiful acres along the coastline and is also home to the Holocaust Center of Nassau County.

There are various choices for storage: boats can be stored in the water, on land (outside), or inside our secure storage buildings. We offer three travelifts, which can accommodate 25-60 tons. Our vigilant staff maintain a regular schedule during the winter storage season to regularly check and inspect boats. We want to make sure that every boat is properly supported and cradled all winter long.
Take advantage of your boat’s ‘down time’ to tune up and upgrade for the summer sailing season. Our service team is available to take care of almost every maintenance, repair, or improvement – whether mechanical, electrical, finish work, carpentry, or rigging.
Brewer Yacht Yard at Glen Cove is a member of:
With 10 acres of land and 22,000 sq. ft. of service space, we comfortably maintain a fleet of 500 yachts. Our site is finely manicured, reflecting the special care and service we provide. Though our technicians provide complete mechanical, electrical, rigging, carpentry, finish, and fiberglass services, we are especially well versed in rigging work and fiberglass repair. Our ever-growing list of service specialties also includes custom woodwork, yacht finish application, and mechanical repowers.
With a 25-ton travel lift, a 60-ton travel lift, a 20-ton hydraulic trailer, a forklift, and a 15-ton hydraulic mobile crane, we are well equipped to handle almost any yacht. Our heat controlled buildings are well lit, and fully ventilated. Our indoor storage facility can accommodate as many as 50 boats in the off-season.
Our fully certified mechanics crew services running gear, upgrades sanitation systems, updates electrical systems, repowers engines, and handles annual yacht maintenance. To stay ahead in this highly technical industry, our crew members also attend service schools on a regular basis, such as those offered by MerCruiser, Yanmar, Sealand, and Westerbeke. In addition, each year, the crew participates in companywide in-house service seminars.
Our very skilled industry veteran is capable of structural and cosmetic gelcoat repairs, blister and bottom work, and major modifications, including superstructures and hulls, and manages our finish department. The crew also maintains bright work and applies yacht-quality Awlgrip finishes.
Our ABYC-certified technicians provide the yard’s electrical service. We offer everything from inverter and alternator installations, to battery bank hookups, to complete diagnostic services.
Our carpentry department is very talented and always enjoys a good woodworking challenge. Carpentry projects at Glen Cove include teak and holly cabin soles, teak decks, built-in cabinetry, joinery work, and custom yacht transoms.
A long-standing relationship with Oyster Bay Boat Shop enables us to service all of your rigging needs. We have cooperated on dozens of projects over the years and use their services exclusively.
