About the Area

Stratford, founded by the Puritans in 1639, is bordered on the west by Bridgeport, to the north by Trumbull and Shelton, and on the east by Milford (across the Housatonic River). Known for its shipbuilding history, Stratford has been home to shipyard activity, of one sort or another, since the 1700s. During the mid 1800s, Stratford was the building site for many large schooners, most notably the 280-ton Helen Mar. In later years, the town developed an aviation association, becoming the birthplace of the American helicopter industry, after Igor Sikorsky successfully flew the first helicopter at a Stratford-based aircraft plant.

Safe Harbor's Stratford Marina is nestled on the west bank of the Housatonic River, just minutes away from the Long Island Sound. At approximately a mile and a half up river from the mouth, the marina is a safe haven sheltered from the wind and wave action from the Sound. The 149-mile Housatonic River, which becomes an estuary in the Southern Connecticut region, provides Stratford Marina with a most peaceful setting. This tidal ecosystem serves as a sanctuary for a multitude of aquatic and avian species. Coupled with our attentive service and pristine facilities, Stratford compels recreational and fishing enthusiasts alike.

When venturing away from this beautiful, historic port, nearby cruising opportunities include the 16 Norwalk Islands to the west, and the Thimble Islands to the east. Destinations across the Sound include Port Jefferson, Eaton's Neck, Oyster Bay, and Northport.

Conveniently, for those accessing the yard by land, Stratford Marina is just a short drive from any town in western Connecticut and within an hour's drive of New York City. Sikorsky Airport and the local train station are also within a mile of the marina.

Slips / Storage

Summer Slips

At Stratford Marina, nearly 200 slips accommodate pleasure cruisers, recreational fishing boats, and all boats in between; from 20’ runabouts to 80’ yachts. Power, water, fuel, pump out service, and cable TV are all available dockside, and secure berthing is provided for all.

Our full-time summer dock staff and a well-marked channel make arrival and departure easy. After settling in, the comforts of a five star marina beckon boaters ashore: a pool, a ships store, laundry facilities, and a waterfront restaurant are all onsite. The bird sanctuary located just across the river complements our scenic setting.

For peace of mind, a high-tech surveillance system and an electronic gate (that locks down after hours) provide additional security.
