The 2016 season proved to be a lot of fun for Pilots Point Marina members! Pilots Point hosted at least one event every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The season began with the annual Spring Picnic. Pilots Point hosts this event every May to welcome guests back to the marina and get underway towards another season. The event provides a fun atmosphere for dockmates to catch up and grab a delicious lunch. Every May Pilots Point also celebrates our heroes with a ceremonial flag raising on Memorial Day, and honors our other heroes with coffee and donuts in the south yard clubhouse for Mother’s Day.
June brought warmer temperatures and even more fun! PPM kids and dads competed and had a blast during the annual Father’s Day Home Run Derby on an improvised baseball diamond. Pilots Point members always look forward to the Summer Kick-Off Party, hosted in late June. This event offers something for the whole family, including an amazing band, a moonbounce and a mouth watering BBQ dinner.
The marina members showed their patriotic side during the 4th of July Decorating Contest. Pilots Point Marina customers always “WOW” judges with their creativity and patriotism, making the event a ton of fun! In July guests also enjoyed the first of three Wine & Cheese Tastings, hosted by Cindy’s Wine & Spirits. Customers sampled a great selection of beer, wine, and cheese from local vendors.
July is full of fantastic events at PPM, including the annual Kid’s Day. The south yard pavilion turned into the ultimate playground with slip n slides, moonbounces, a foam pit, an obstacle course and fun crafts. The annual North Yard Shed Party is one of the highlights of each season. PPM customers love to dance the night away to groovy tunes while they support a worthy cause. The Shed Party is a fundraiser for Sail CT Access, a non-profit that provides opportunity for people to move beyond disabilities through the sport of sailing. This season marked the 11th annual Shed Party, and PPM raffled off over $5,000 in prizes provided by local businesses, friends, and vendors. The Leukemia Cup Regatta after party was another fun event for a great cause.
July wrapped up with a new event, but one that is sure to become a favorite: the 1st annual Cardboard Boat Regatta. The Pilots Point crew gave each team one week to design and build a boat made entirely of cardboard: once the vessels were ready, we launched and raced them! To our surprise, these boats not only floated, they performed great! Pilots Point looks forward to growing this event next year.
In August Pilots Point hosts the highly anticipated “Pirate’s Day”! If you haven’t been around for Pirate’s Day, then you don’t know what you’re missing. Dinghies turn into pirate ships with a mission to gather clues hidden around the marina. But no pirate ship is without cannon’s; this scavenger hunt turns into a marina wide water gun fight! Pilots Point customers also enjoyed bi-weekly Friday night cocktail hours at Boom featuring live music, free hors’ d’oeuvres and half price drinks. The PPM kids had a blast at Kid’s Club every Saturday morning doing fun arts and crafts and activities.
This summer brought all of these events and even more. From the Brewer Yacht Sales In-Water Boat Show in the spring to our Annual Customer Appreciation Picnic in September, there’s always something happening at Brewer Pilots Point Marina. It’s safe to say that 2016 was a blast, and 2017 will be no different: keep your eyes out for next year’s event schedule coming out early spring 2017!
